Silicones
and Leisure
Whether it’s our most precious casual
wear or items such as diving masks, skis or tennis balls, silicones
find widespread application in the sports and leisurewear market.

Fiberfill
for finishing anoraks is treated with special Silicone
emulsions. This renders it resistant to washing and dry-cleaning,
without impairing its softness.
Jogging
shoes need to be comfortable and weather-resistant. Silicones
are used on the uppers because they satisfy both requirements.
Their water-repellent qualities are just as important as
the fibers’ lasting softness.

The
good skin tolerance of Silicone
rubber ensures that diver’s
masks are comfortable to wear. Moreover, its resistance
to environmental influences makes for long-lasting use.
High resistance to radiation and ozone helps to prevent
the material from becoming brittle. Thanks to the exceptionally
good transparency of silicone rubber, the underwater world
can be seen without distortion. |

New records in high-performance sports and ever better equipment for the leisure industry are ultimately due in part to modern composites. Compound materials, or composites, consist of several components, for example, an organic polymer (resins such as polyester, epoxide, melamine or vinyl ester resin, or the like) and an inorganic component (mineral fibers such as carbon or glass fibers). Only on addition of suitable additives is the material with the desired properties obtained. Aside from pyrogenic silica (HDK®), these additives include various silicones, among them GENIOSIL® silicones. |
